Mike Tyson showed a formidable mentality when he had his first roundtable with Jake Paul.
The two boxers will fight on November 15, which will be broadcast on Netflix for their first-ever boxing fight. Tyson enters the ring as a 58-year-old and a former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World. He has not had a professional boxing bout since 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride. However, during his professional career, he achieved a record of 50 wins, six losses, and 44 knockout wins. He stopped his first 19 professional boxers, making him a knockout artist. His last fight in any capacity was a 2020 exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. This ended in a draw, but it sold over a million PPVs, showing that Tyson can still command a big audience.
Paul will enter the ring considerably younger at the age of 27. He has only suffered one loss. That came against his first-ever professional boxer in the form of Tommy Fury. Since the Fury defeat, Paul has gone on to win his next four fights. He was set to face Tyson initially on July 20. But the fight was called off after Tyson withdrew with an inflamed ulcer. Mike Perry stepped in as Paul made no mistake, stopping him in the sixth round to continue his impressive win streak.
Tyson’s Mind Games
The narrative around this fight is whether Tyson will be able to catch Paul or whether The Problem Child will manage to outbox him due to his significant youth and activity. Tyson showed that he is taking this seriously as he sought to get into Paul’s head during their roundtable. Jake offered him a gift in the form of a pigeon. Tyson is known for being a massive fan of pigeons and birds, something you may not associate with a knockout artist. However, Tyson took the gift, later stating that he would feed it to his Falcon.
“Thank you, Jake. It looks like a little budget pedigree. I’ll feed him to my falcon,” Tyson said
Tyson also laughed at Paul when he said he would manifest a knockout. Jake has stopped his last three opponents, showing that he can get rid of them quickly. These were first-round knockouts against Andre August, Ryan Bourland and a sixth-round stoppage against Perry.
“He dreams big. This [KO] is not going to come true, young man,” Tyson added
Tyson’s Aims
Jake will have to move up from cruiserweight to heavyweight. This is the first time he is doing this, as there are question marks over whether he can cope with the extra weight. He tends to slow down later in his fights, as demonstrated in his Nate Diaz win. Tyson has issued a chilling warning about his intentions. Tyson recently said he would return to his most vicious. And he reminded Paul of his alter ego, Iron Mike, stating that he is a manufactured killer during his Netflix documentary, ‘Iron Mike,’ to promote the fight.
“There’s a fundamental difference between me and Jake.. He’s a manufactured killer. Television and the papers made him a killer, he’s manufactured. I’m a natural-born killer. That’s the difference,” Tyson stated
